چکیده

The use of state of art instrumentation systems to measure high-speed events has increased tremendously in the past few decades. The current study aimed at measuring the velocity of small caliber projectiles within the desired limits of accuracy. The velocity of the projectile is calculated by dividing the distance between two downrange measurement locations, by the difference of the time when the projectile arrives at these locations. The work comprised of development and testing of a signal conditioning circuitry to process the signals received at the two downrange locations. The system thus developed measures the velocity of the projectiles of different calibers, traveling at the speeds varying from 397m/s to 912m/s, within accuracy limits of ±1%. Designing the ideal model for assessment of wound contamination after gunshot injuries: a comparative experimental study

BACKGROUND Modern high-velocity projectiles produce temporary cavities and can thus cause extensive tissue destruction along the bullet path. It is still unclear whether gelatin blocks, which are used as a well-accepted tissue simulant, allow the effects of projectiles to be adequately investigated and how these effects are influenced by caliber size. METHOD Barium titanate particles were dis...

Radar Identification of Hostile Fire by Means of the Electromagnetic Complex Natural Resonances of Projectiles

The authors discuss and demonstrate the feasibility of using ultra wide band microwave radar to detect and identify small arms fire. Detection and tracking is by standard radar techniques, but identification is carried out by exciting the projectiles Complex Natural Resonances and using this aspect independent information to assign a caliber to the incoming projectiles. The typical sizes of sma...

Minimal velocities necessary for perforation of skin by air gun pellets and bullets.

A series of tests were conducted to determine the velocities necessary for lead air gun pellets (calibers .177 and .22) and caliber .38 lead bullets to perforate skin. Human lower extremities were used. Caliber .177 air gun pellets weighing 8.25 grains required a minimum velocity of 101 m/s (331 ft/s) to perforate skin. The energy per area of presentation ratio E/a was 1:86 m X kg/cm2. Caliber ...

Numerical Simulation of Impact of Low Velocity Projectiles With Water Surface

In this article, Finite Element Method (FEM) and Eulerian-Lagrangies Algorithm (ELA) formulation were used to numerically simulate the impact of several low-velocity projectiles with water surface. Material models which were used to express behavior of air and water included Null material model. For the projectiles, rigid material model were applied. Results were validated by analyzing the impa...

Plastic Wave Propagation Model for Perforation of Metallic Plates by Blunt Projectiles

In this paper, a six-stage interactive model is presented for the perforation of metallic plates using blunt deformable projectiles when plastic wave propagation in both target and projectile is considered. In this analytical model, it is assumed that the projectile and target materials are rigid – plastic linear work hardened. The penetration of the projectile into the target is divided into s...
